RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat

The Club runs RYA Powerboat L1& L2, plus RYA Safety boat courses on an annual basis. Min duration: 2 days

PBL2 with experience is a pre-requisite to undertaking a RYA Safety Boat course.

Both Courses are 2 days, plus an evening introduction (1830 - 2130 or 1900 to 2200) and the sessions usually start 0900 to 1700 each day.

  • Induction sessions are usually at CAYC Clubhouse on Friday evenings.
  • Weekend of 2 days on the water are held at CAYC and the open water in that locale along with manoeuvres in the nearby White Harbour
  • The theory sessions are held in the Clubhouse Training room.

An online booking with Joining instructions is required from those registered. All pre-requisites are on the Booking / Joining information.

PBL2 requires a passport size photo. Application online with DOB and payment must be completed prior to the course.

2024 - Fees for both Powerboat Level 2 and Safety Boat Courses - this includes PB Logbook, PB Manual and Certificate/ Safety Boat Handbook - Candidates who prefer E-Books, must download themselves.

The RYA Safety boat is resource heavy with additional Boats/Sailors/Instructors to create the scenarios on the water and therefore attracts a higher fee to the participants.

To encourage use of the training and volunteers in the Club there is a Safety Boat Voucher scheme.

Adult Members who have completed the course will receive a refund of £30 - if 4 support activities on a Club RIB are delivered.

U18 who pay £140 fee will receive a Safety Boat Voucher for 2 support activities on Club RIB Rota, equates to a refund of £10

We are committed to increasing the number of members RYA certified to assist in manning our safety boats in support of racing, events and training activities.

Power boat Instructors at CAYC : Richard Robinson, Colin de Fleury, Rory McKenna, John Lewis, Sheela Lewis, Heather Foster-Sharpe and Simon Exley.

Powerboat L1 & L2 courses & Safety Boat will be run based upon registered interest.
