Schedule & what to bring
- Please arrive at 08:20 for start time 08:30.
- Dress suitability for practical exercises on the floor.
- Tea and Coffee will be available and access to a Kitchen.
- Bring a pack lunch and any preferred drinks.
- The Course runs until approx. 16:00
Course content & outcomes
This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers. It fulfils the requirements for first aid training for vessels working up to area Category 2 under the Maritime and Coastguard Agency Codes of Practice for Small Vessels Operated Commercially. First aid training is needed by offshore racers subject to World Sailing's Offshore Special Regulation OSR 6.05.2: the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations, 1981 for the purposes of Emergency First Aid at Work.
The subjects specific to boating include:
- Adult & Child CPR, including the Drowning protocol
- The Recovery Position in a confined spaces
- Use of a Defibrillator
- Cold Water Shock and Hypothermia
- Bleeding Injuries, including Bandaging
- Hot & Cold Related Injuries & Conditions
- Seasickness and Dehydration
- Summoning of Medical Assistance or Advice by VHF
- Helicopter Rescue Procedures
Each student will have an opportunity to training with a "mannequin" and training defibrillator

Participants will receive the RYA First Aid course book and RYA Certificate at the completion of the Course.
Note: The previous courses at the club were in 2022/ 2023. The RYA First Aid course must be taken every 3 years.
