County Antrim Yacht Club is hosting a Discover Sailing, Powerboating and Kayaking Event on Saturday 10 May.
This offers two sessions in the morning for all activities and two sailing sessions in the afternoon.
- Sailing taster sessions with RYA qualified Instructors and Coaches.
- Powerboating tasters will follow the RYA Powerboat Level 1 syllabus with a RYA Powerboat Instructor leading.
- (Each of the Sailing & Powerboat sessions are £5 per person which includes a Bacon or Sausage Bap at the morning sessions and a Burger or Hotdog from the BBQ in the afternoon
- Kayaking (sit-on) is scheduled for two morning taster sessions that will be £5 per person and includes a Bacon or Sausage Bap on return to shore. PaddleNI Instructor - James Sommerville.
- Members with their own craft, a dinghy, Paddle board or Kayak may take part in a morning or afternoon sessions. They must register using the booking system. This will help the organisers provision the safety cover and refreshments.
The Format:
- Morning Sessions are Block A - 1000 to 1200, Block B -1100 to 1300
- Lunch break
- Afternoon sessions are Block C - 1330 to 1530, Block D - 1430 to 16:30 (Note : there are no kayaking sessions in the afternoon) - there is one PB Level 1 in the afternoon.
- Session times described over a 2 hrs duration will include preparation, on the water activities for approx. 45-60mins and debrief after the session.
- On arrival go to the Registration Team.
- You will receive a Welcome, given time to change and go on the water for your chose activity, then ashore for a BBQ and debrief by the Volunteer Members to answer any questions you may have.
Essential requirements:
- All under 18s (minimum age 8 for sailing) must be accompanied by an adult (booking required)
- Kayaking over 8 yrs and Powerboat sessions - you must be over 12 yrs
- Booking is essential for all activities
- Visitors must wear appropriate clothing (For Sailing/Powerboating only; clothes/shoes that will get wet are ok, plus a warm wind and waterproof coat/trousers.) you will be on a slipway in the water to transfer into a Dinghy or RIB.
- For Kayaking; you must wear a wetsuit and the Club can provide you with a suitable Buoyancy aid and safety helmet.
- Everyone on the water must wear a personal buoyancy aid/life jacket (these will be provided should you not have one).
- Please bring one if you already own one.
