Eric Twiname Regatta

Ellen McCarlie and Andrew Mitchell represented CAYC and RYA NI Junior Squad as part of the team of 7 from N.Ireland at this event. The annual Junior event took place from 11 – 12 May 2013. Given the weather we experienced here at the Flying Fifteen event, these juniors had similar conditions to contend with.

One of the highlights of the RYA’s Racing calendar, the regatta is now in its 27th year and saw young competitors in over 285 boats and windsurfers pit their sailing skills against the best young talents from each of the six English Zones, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, in a bid to help their Zone or home country team clinch the coveted Eric Twiname Shield.

The event which is an integral part of the Junior class calendar offers  the RYA Zone/Home Country Squads competitive racing in a fun and friendly environment. The weekend welcomed boats from across seven of the RYA Junior classes – Optimist, Topper, and Feva dinghy classes with the windsurfers racing on Bic Techno boards with 4.5m, 5.8m, 6.8m and 7.8m rigs. Book Club

Lucy Caldwell read at The John Hewitt bar last week. (7 May) She was kind enough to recommend a book, Tin Toys Trilogy by Ursula Holden so we decided to go with this.  It is actually a trilogy (very short) but is available to download as one text.

I hope that is ok with everyone and look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 13 June. Liz Canning
