Latest on Giro/ Stena Line Sweepstake

Stage 16 Results.

Nairo Quintana moved into the overall lead in the Giro de Italia after winning a controversial Stage 16 with a powerful display in tricky conditions.
The official Giro Twitter account wrongly advised that the Stelvio descent had been neutralised (riders do not compete for safety reasons) because heavy rain had made the tricky descent even more treacherous.

A further tweet corrected the wrong information but not all team cars received the update.
Of the top ten riders after Stage 15, eight dropped places, two moved up places after Stage 16.

Positions after Stage 16 :-

1/ Nairo Quintana 121       6/ Fabio Aru 3

2/ Rigoberto Uran 14         7/ Domenico Pozzovivo 11

3/ Cadel Evans 51             8/ Wilco Kelderman 41

4/ Pierre Rolland 161        9/ Ryder Hesjedal 91

5/ Rafal Majka 203          10/ Robert Kiserlovski 211

This means that with 11 tickets not yet sold there are now two riders in the top ten still available !

As the Giro enters it’s final week, sweep-stake ticket sales are going well with over 90% sold.

The present leaders of the race after 15 stages are :-

1/ Rigoberto Uran 141

2/ Cadel Evans 51

3/ Rafal Majka 203

4/ Fabio Aru 3

5/ Nairo Quintana 121

6/ Domenico Pozzovivo 11

7/ Wilco Kelderman 41

8/ Pierre Rolland 161

9/ Robert Kiserlovski 211

10/ Wout Poels 147

Please note that the rider lying in 5th, and still very much in contention, has still not been drawn so it’s not to late to buy a winning ticket. Link to overview of allocations

The race finishes with the Gemona Del Friuli to Trieste stage on Sunday 1st June, so tickets will be available up to Saturday 31st May.
