Results :

3rd time lucky..County Antrim Yacht Club managed to steal some decent sailing weather for their Regatta. The previous 2 years were hit with poor weather cancelling the afternoon  racing.

This year with the same sponsor on-board Eurotech Safety Systems, the Regatta had a superb turnout.  The morning had sunshine and a 10 mph wind which saw 35 dinghies fill Whitehead bay.

After lunch, the dinghies were joined by keel boats from around Belfast Lough and Larne Lough notching up a total of 57 competing boats.

There were competitors of all ages. The Classic Flying Fifteen fleet in the afternoon race was won by Gavin Pollard with two very young crew : Rory Pollard and Matthew McClernon. In the morning race his youngest son Calum had also been a crew. (Picture) Three crew receiving a prize from Commodore, David Jamison and Sailing Secretary Alistair McCarlie. With National and Regional Race events held at County Antrim Yacht Club this year, it was marvellous to host the Annual Regatta, encouraging the novice sailor to the most experienced sailor to take part and later enjoy the music and afternoon tea onshore. In the Optimist class, although only one took to the water, Tom Kyle was recognised by the Club having only learnt to sail 4 weeks earlier on the Club’s RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. Of note, few sailors or spectators knew that Bill Foster from Belfast Lough Sailability helmed David Mitchell’s “White Pearl” throughout the racing. As expressed by the Commodore “CAYC were delighted with the support from visiting sailors and members making it a memorable Regatta.”
